David Roye, MD, Pride Visiting Medical Student Scholarship

The David Roye, MD, Pride Visiting Medical Student Scholarship supports a rising fourth-year medical student who, prior to completing medical school, will spend a month under the guidance of the faculty in our department. Preference is given to applicants who are leaders/active in the LGBTQ+ community. The Fund is being established with a seed gift from David Roye, MD, VP&S Class of 1975, former chief of the Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, and an accomplished, internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon.

The Fund helps nurture the early careers and further the education of promising medical students who have demonstrated an interest in the field. Dr. Roye, discussing why he wanted to establish this fund, observed: “The goal is to provide students with understanding and support, so that they feel welcome in our community of orthopedic surgery.  This scholarship allows us to attract students who are active in the LGBTQ+ community, to develop their interest, and to recruit these young leaders to our specialty.”

Students from any medical school will be eligible for the Roye Pride Scholarship, which seeks to inculcate in young doctors the values that David Roye embodies: compassion, excellence, success, giving back.
