Book Talk and Social with Ann Kansfield '98CC

Columbia Pride, the LGBTQ+ alumni organization sponsored by the Columbia Alumni Association, is overjoyed to announce its first hybrid event, a book talk with Ann Kansfield '98CC, a chaplain with the Fire Department of the City of New York and a pastor at the Greenpoint Reformed Church. Ann will be in conversation with Ian Rottenberg, Dean of Religious Life, Director of the Earl Hall and Associate Chaplain, Religious Life at Columbia, about her book, Be the Brave One: Living Your Spiritual Values Out Loud and Other Life Lessons, and will cover her journey from Wall Street broker to pastor, wife, and mother.

Ann Kansfield is a Protestant minister who serves both as a pastor at the Greenpoint Reformed Church and as a chaplain with the Fire Department of the City of New York. She's energetic, humorous and entertaining while also being very serious about the ministry of the gospel. She lives a block from Times Square with her wife and their two middle school aged children. Not surprisingly, their apartment can get a little loud at times. Ann's first book, Be the Brave One, is a collection of stories of ministry adventures told around the theme of living out one's spiritual values. It was recently published by Broadleaf Books.

Rev. Dr. Rottenberg is Dean of Religious Life at Columbia and directs The Earl Hall Center. Dean Rottenberg has academic degrees in philosophy and theology from Haverford College, Yale University, and Fordham University. He is passionate about increasing understanding between traditions and bridging gaps between faith communities and the academy.

A social will follow our estimated hour-long conversation among Ann, Rev. Dr. Rottenberg, and the audience.  We look forward to gathering with you!

For those who are in the New York area and would like to attend in person, this conversation will take place in Earl Hall.  Please use the green button on the eventbrite page to register.  To register as a virtual attendee of this event, you will find the registration link at the bottom of event description and bios on this same eventbrite page.
